Artist's Statement
I am a painter of light.
My palette is color, shape, texture, edge, direction, and time. My brushes are as simple or advanced as technology will allow, or brought into existence from my own imagination. I use the stage as my blank canvas. The human form, tables, chairs, walls, clothing, the floor, any kind of shape or sculpture that can be placed on the blank canvas is revealed by my medium of light. Even the air itself is part of my composition. I listen to the words of the playwright, the music of the recording artist, the tempos and rhythms of the human story that unfolds. I add my voice to the story with light, and evoke emotional responses in every viewer. I unlock a deeper cathartic understanding of the stage picture that enriches the whole experience of performance. My work links me to the stories and experiences that connect each and every human being in the telling. I do the work I do because it fills me with happiness and gratitude. I am a painter of light.
